Budko (1888-1940) was famous Jewish-Polish artist who created etchings, engravings & woodcuts; favorite student of Jewish artist Hermann Struck; director of Bezalel art school 1934-40. Fromer (1865-1938) was Jewish-Polish semiticist & librarian of Berlin Jewish Community who published anti-Semitic article (1904) identifying Judaism's character as source of anti-Semitism & called for its self-destruction; recognized as an authority on Talmud; this work is said to reflect his ongoing struggle to reconcile his western identity with his traditional background.
