Obv.: left facing King Abdullah; Arabic leg. "Abdullah ibn al-Hussein / King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan". Rev.: Al-Aqsa Mosque (Jerusalem); leg. in exergue "Wisam al-Ikdam al-Askari" (Order of Military Gallantry). Medal instituted by the King in 1946 & initially awarded to all ranks of the Arab Legion for displaying the highest gallantry under fire; later expanded to a general decoration for the highest gallantry - also awarded posthuously. Medal suspended by ring & attached to a metal base looped by a green-white-yellow ribbon.

May have been issued in connection to King Hussein's dismissal of British leadership of Arab Legion, which he renamed "The Arab Army" (March 1956) or it may relate to the reaction to an Israeli 'retribution operation' in Al-Rahwa, near Hebron, in Sept. where 20+ Jordanian soldiers & policemen were killed.

"Kairo" - most probably Swedish, and area above "Sharm" (el Sheikh) highlighted by dash-lined circle - probably St. Catherine's Monastery, evacuated by Israel Jan. 1957 in favor of UN forces (possible location of the Swedish contingent). Reverse: wreath device on empty field with maker-mark (& city stamp?) at base. Unusual and rare.

WWII Belgian Free Forces: bronze officers' field cap badge of the 1st Battalion Belgian Fusiliers in UK. This was first "free" Belgian Army unit created after fall of Belgium (May 1940); est. Tenby Wales, Oct. '40; attached to 36th Br. Infantry Brigade (Mar-Nov. '41); operational Sept. 1942 (in 49th West Riding Div.); disbanded Jan '43 & integrated into 1st Belgian Independent Group. Badge is one of 3 types of 'ramping' lion emblems worn by 1st Bn - others: silver (NCOs) & brass (privates). Instituted Oct. 1940 & worn initially on left side of field cap; in Dec. worn on top of Belgian tri-color strip; from May 1941 on, as initially worn. Scalloped reverse; one soldiered pronged hook at back & possibly 2nd, now missing; not maker-marked. Rare.

Korean Presidential Unit Citations & 1 American.
