Mailbid Sales

CONTENTS:

Terms & Conditions
Welcome to the upcoming page of our next Mailbid Sale. As the mailbid gets prepared, I'll publish ongoing details of the sale here. Below are standard arrangements in our mailbids:

Benefits of Being a Bidder in Our Sale:
No buyer fees or commissions
If you win the bid on a lot, you are only charged the amount of the winning bid, and the postage and shipping charges.
High bids get reduced
Winning bids get reduced to between 5-10% above the 2nd highest bid.
You may bid below our estimate price
Bids which are up to 25% below our estimate price may still be eligible to win on a lot (as long as the bid is above our reserve price).
You can request set bid increases
Bid to win with a relaxed mind by requesting us to increase your bid by a specified amount over and above the current high bid.
You can limit your total bids AND bid on multiple items
Budgets can conquer lots: with a fixed budget you can still bid on multiple lots by numbering them in order of preference; you can even request to allot more of your budget on some of the items over others.

If you are considering disposing of individual collectible items or a collection, contact us to be included in our mailbid sale.

Benefits of Consigning With Us:
Consigning is FREE, with no strings attached We don't charge you anything for consigning materials for sale. We only get paid if your items sell; no sale, no fee - we do all the work free up front.

TERMS OF SALE

I. The Structure of the Sale
  1. All bids are per lot as numbered in this catalog.
  2. All prices and charges listed herein are in U.S. Dollars and do not include Value Added Tax. Applicable taxes will be added to local Israeli sales; sales to overseas bidders are mailed as exports and are exempt from taxes.
  3. Historama / Alex Ben-Arieh has sole discretion over the management of the mailbid sale, with the authority to alter, adjust or change the terms of sale; to withdraw, split or regroup any lot; to determine the winners of lots; to cancel the sale of a lot/s and to present it again for sale; to invalidate certain bids or exclude certain participants, on the basis of his judgment.
  4. Historama is committed to deal strictly and only with authentic and genuine merchandise (original pieces dating to the period they belong to, manufactured by the sources that are known to have produced them, etc.); we do not deal with or present articles which we know or suspect to be reproductions, fakes, altered or otherwise 'problematic' pieces. In the rare event that we present a piece which we know or suspect to be inauthentic, we will state so directly in the item description or present it "as is": in the absence of such a comment, the item we describe is being presented as a piece we believe to be genuine.

As a business operating under a VAT number (and not under the protections of a limited liability company), we cannot explicity promise to "guarantee originality" of all our merchandise as this would potentially leave us open to legal action for up to seven years from the date of a sale in the event that our promise is either exploited by others or a genuine mistake on our part is made. Please see Section III, Term 5 for our return policy.
  5. All matters arising on account of a sale shall be decided under the laws of the State of Israel. The exclusive jurisdiction of Tel Aviv Courts is agreed upon.
II. Payment
  1. Payment may be made using cheque, money order, bank transfer, cash, or by credit and debit card through the Moneybookers service - click here for more information about it; payment through Moneybookers should be made to "alex@historama.com". Due to costs we incur receiving wire transfers, and checks for $50 or less, these charges will be added to the total invoiced amount to a bidder.
  2. Payment is due and payable upon the bidder's receipt of our invoice, unless arrangements are made prior to the closing of the sale. Late payers forfeit any return priviliges. All invoices past-due by 30 days are subject to an interest charge of 2% per month. Historama reserves the right to invalidate a delinquent bid - either to release the merchandise to the next highest bidder for future offer.
  3. Title does not pass until lots are paid for in full; merchandise will be shipped out upon clearance of the bidder's payment.
III. Bidder's Rights
  1. There are no buyer's fees in our sales.
  2. High bids get reduced by 5 to 10% over the next-highest bid.
  3. Bidders may offer bids of up to 25% below our asking price (see Section IV, Term #5 for full terms).
  4. There may be unpublished reserves set aside by consignor or cataloguer, but our 'ask' price will never be set below the reserve (see Section IV, Term #5).
  5. Your satisfaction is guaranteed. Lots may be returned to us within 14 days of your receipt of the order for a full refund (minus the postage/packaging and related deposit processing charges). The item must be returned in the same condition as it was sold (in its original holder/packaging and condition); any tampering with the item may invalidate the refund. Late payers forfeit any return priviliges.

NOTE: most photos of the merchandise on this site and hardcopy catalogues are not to scale; in most cases they have been enlarged to enable you to see more detail of them. Contact us if you would like actual measurement-size of the items.

  6. All lots described as "Collection", bearing descriptions of faults, or containing 3 or more items are sold "as is".
  7. Submission of a bid confirms acceptance of our mailbid Terms of Sale.
  8. Bidders are responsible for errors in bidding. Please check your bid sheet carefully.
IV. Sales & Bidding Procedures
  1. Bid sheets must be signed by the bidder.
  2. We reserve the right to reject any bid.
  3. Phone, fax, mail, and e-mail bids are accepted. However verbally communicated bids must be confirmed in writing.
  4. In case of tie bids, the earliest bid received will win the lot.
  5. The estimated asking price is Historama's best professional attempt to establish a starting sale value for a lot. Lots may and will sell above and below this estimate, so bid what the lot is worth to you. We will accept bids below our asking price, as long as they are at least 75% of the estimate price, and as long as they are not below any unpublished reserves or under the current 'melt value' of a lot made of certain precious metals. Remember that high bids will be reduced to 5 to 10% over the next highest bid.
  6. Where we have duplicate lots of identical description, these may be offered to under-bidders with their consent.
V. Services & Post-Sale Procedure
  1. Prices realized are published about 40 days after the sale and will be mailed to all consignors, subscribers and competitive bidders. Others may order a copy for $5.
  2. Postage, packaging and relevant insurance are extra charges (minimum $4) added to the selling price.
  3. Unless otherwise requested, we will ship via the Israeli Postal Service, and in any case all shipments will be sent by registered mail. We are not liable for loss of merchandise during shipping and although not required, we do recommend that purchasers of high-value items arrange for insured shipping.
PARTICIPATING IN OUR MAILBID SALE

Our principle is to be straight and straight-forward in our presentation and operations. All items presented will have photographic accompaniment. We hope you will enjoy participating in our mailbid, from entering a bid and checking back on it to receiving your lot by mail and enjoying it.

Closing: At this time no closing date has been set yet, but in principle we will stop taking bids on a specified date at a specified hour by Israel Time or when a 10 minute break exists from the last received bid around the deadline time. If, for example, our phone is busy at the published time of the end of sale, this means that the sale is not yet over - try us again until you get through (but send the bid in writing thereafter). We do recommend that you place your bids early on in the sale and check back with us to see your status on your desired lots. This way you are not pressured at the last minutes of the sale or shut out completely because of the deadline.

Post-Sale: No information will be available about the results of the sale until all bids and invoices have been checked. This takes about 5 days, and we may not be available to reply to related inquiries during that period.

Allowing for payment delays and returns, about 40 days after the mailbid the prices realized will be published. Around this time, we will also publish a list of the remaining unsold (or returned) lots, at discounted but fixed 'settlement' prices. If there was something you skipped or lost to another bidder, this is your chance to get what you missed.

Bidding: Our principle is to be straight and straight-forward: there are no hidden fees imposed on successful bidders - Historama does not charge a buyer's fee, a handling fee, or charge excessive shipping and insurance costs. Whereas other firms normally impose a 15-20% buyer-fee on top of a successful bid, plus "handling fees", and add a shipping charge as a percent of the final bid, we don't.

Our bid sheets (soon to be available) also offer several bidding options that can save you money, maximize your budget and ensure that you have a good chance to clinch the lots you really want. We also suggest you bid above the estimated price if you want an item as high bids will be reduced. If you are unsure of how to use our bid options, please contact us and we will be happy to explain them to you.

If you have questions about any lot in the sale, our description or bidding strategy, call as far in advance of the close of the sale as possible. We do not reveal the high bid, but if you have bid on a lot you may contact us later and we will tell you if you are the high bidder.

To ensure that no mistakes are made in your bidding, please follow the bid-form instructions carefully; please write legibly and provide as much information as possible on the bids you are making.

BIDDING OPTIONS
  1. Bid Allocation: Everyone has a budget, but budgets aren't constraints - they can be stretched or spread. If you make a set of initial bids within a budgeted amount, you can also re-allocate that budget over some or all of your bids for subsequent rounds of bidding. If your total bids exceed or may exceed your budget, you can initially spread your budget however you like to try to make your bids; then, if you feel the bidding may become more competitive, you can concentrate your budget on certain lots and re-allocate your budget over the lots you want. You can:
    1. set specific values for re-allocated bids, and/or
    2. also specify the priority of your targets if your choices exceed your budget (i.e. $100 per lot over 10 lots on a $500 budget), and/or
    3. even request that your whole budget count towards bids on selected items - it may be that an earlier bid for an item more than secured you the lot, leaving extra budget muscle to be spread more effectively over the other lots that you wanted . Thus, you can actually bid on numerous high-dollar lots using the weight of your whole budget to try for at least one of them when the critical moment arrives.
  2. Auto Increase: The ace up your sleeve: sometimes your bid may be just shy of beating the high bid on a particular lot, or there may be a lot you want under any circumstance. In instances where you want to win the bid on one or several lots you may request that your bid/s be increased by a percentage that you specify in order to get yourself put ahead of the current high bid (above your established budget cap). Of course, if your increase puts you well above the next highest bid when the mailbid closes, your bid will be adjusted down to 5-10% above that next highest bid.
  3. Multiple Units: For lots where multiple units are available, you can request to bid for more than just one unit of it. If you were an under-bidder for such a lot, we may offer it to you at your bid, too.
